I was gullable when I was three years old,
believed everthing that I was told.
My older sister,she was five,
so I thought her old and wise.
One evening she burst into my room excited,
“Do you know what tonight is?”
Shrugging,sleepy tired and yawning,
She yelled”tomorrow is Christmas morning!”
I screeched shrilly and did a dance,
And confess I almost wet my pants.
“Quick into bed” was her advice,
She didn’t have to tell me twice.
closed my eyes .my body shaked,
Thoughts of toys kept me awake.
My ears ,a radar for mysterious noises,
creaking doors,and muffled voices.
footsteps,a promising rustle,
I didn’t even move a muscle.
At some point I must have fell asleep,
I was woken by a alarm clocks beep!
A huge bulging bag,I rubbed my eyes,
Fought covers to look inside,
I did not expect what greeted me?
Dirty socks, newspapers and my old teddy?
My bottom lip trembled, tears then came,
Was it my fault?was I to blame?
well?I could be a bit of a pest.
But then that’s what I did the best.
surely it wasn’t the the time for me to pay?
For my transgressions?please not today?
A tantrum brewed,I clenched my fists,
“come here teddy take this!and this!”
As I was about to let out an angry roar,
Guess who popped her head around the door?
My big sister with a smirking face.
So of course I gave chase
How could she gloat,be so cruel?
She turned to shout”Aprils fool!”
was I that
